Sterling Silver Scrimshaw + Turquoise Ring

Sterling Silver Scrimshaw + Turquoise Ring

Bring the Ocean to your hands with this hand forged Scrimshaw and Hubei Turquosie Ring.

According to American History Scrimshaw began in the late 18th or early 19th century as the art of carving whale bone or Ivory aboard whaling ships. The crew, sometimes on voyages as long as four years, woud use their leisure time between hunting to craft using the hard parts of the whale which were readily available.

This Ring is a size 8 and features a scrimshaw made of bone depicting a sailing vessel with a Hubei Turquoise all set in Sterling Silver. The face of the ring measures 25.5x19mm. Ring shank is 8.5mm wide.

Sterling Silver materials are 99% recycled. These have been using a casting system.

Items made of Sterling Silver oxodize or begin to show tarnish in sulfuric atmosphere or even when it is near other metals. It's the artist recommendation to keep silver items sperate from other metals and to store them in a sealed compartment with an anti-tarnish tab.
